Love from the Barricade

Set in the early 2000s in Los Angeles emo music scene, an aspiring Mexican-American music journalist must dissociate from toxic friendships and romances, and deconstruct the term "groupie" in order to salvage her career and reputation.

A flawed coming of age story touches on the themes of identity, including asexuality and internalized racism, as well as girl hate and body shaming.

This character-driven narrative uses a post-modern approach and dual timeline to explore the nuanced social issues within a beloved subculture.
